1. At what age can a child travel alone?

Different airlines differently determine the age from which children can travel alone, unaccompanied.

Note. A child traveling alone must reach the permissible age before departure or he /she must enter the permissible age on the day of departure. If a child will reach the permissible during the trip, he / she will not be allowed to travel without an accompanying person.

 

2. In what cases a child travelling alone does not need parental consent?

A child is travelling abroad with an accompanying person, to the Schengen area;

A child is under 18 years of age and married – has gained full civil capacity;

A child has been recognized as capable – emancipated by a court.

 

3. When does a travelling child need parental consent?

If a child is travelling abroad without the parents, but with an accompanying person, outside the Schengen area, the certified consent of one of the parents (certified by a notary, diplomatic mission or an official of the consulate) and its copy is required.

When a child is travelling with an accompanying person, the written and legally certified consent (certified by a notary, diplomatic mission or an official of the consulate) must contain the following information of the child and accompanying person:

  • First name;
  • Family name;
  • Date of birth of personal identification number;
  • Data of the document proving personal identity (passport or identity card): number, expiry date and issuer.
  • Family name;

4. What documents are required for a child travelling with an organized group of children?

When an organized group of children is travelling (tours or trips with sporting, artistic, scientific or other groups), a list of the children and accompanying persons, certified by the signature and seal of the travel organizer and a copy of this letter are required. The list with the names, its copy and the consents of the parents (if traveling outside the Schengen area) should be kept by the travel organizer. 

 

5. Do airlines provide child escort service?

If a child is travelling alone, without an accompanying person, some airlines offer this service.

If you order an escort service, the airline staff will take care of the child from the check-in at the airport and until the child is met by the parents or an authorized adult.
 
6. Can a child who has a visa travel alone?
If a visa is required, infants and children can travel only with the adult specified in the visa.
